In 2016 Malta public debt was 5,767 million euros 6,383 million dollars, has increased 145146 million since 2015.
This amount means that the debt in 2016 reached 58.3% of Malta GDP, a 5.7 percentage point fall from 2015, when it was 64% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malta debt. It has risen since 2006 in global debt terms, when it was 3,480 million euros 4,370 million dollars although it has fallen as a percentage of GDP, when it amounted to 64.6%.
According to the last data point published, Malta per capita debt in 2016 was 13,275 euros14,700 dollars per inhabitant. In 2015 it was 12,942 euros 15,343 dollars, afterwards rising by 333 euros643 dollars, and if we again check 2006 we can see that then the debt per person was 8,580 euros10,824 dollars .
The position of Malta, as compared with the rest of the world, has improved in 2016 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 118 in the list of debt to GDP and 155 in debt per capita, out of the 185 we publish.
