In 2021 Malta public debt was 8,284 million euros9,798 million dollars, has increased 1,3051,856 million since 2020.
This amount means that the debt in 2021 reached 57% of Malta GDP, a 3.6 percentage point rise from 2020, when it was 53.4% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malta debt. It has risen since 2011 in global debt terms, when it was 4,848 million euros 6,676 million dollars although it has fallen as a percentage of GDP, when it amounted to 70%.
According to the last data point published, Malta per capita debt in 2021 was 16,052 euros18,985 dollars per inhabitant. In 2020 it was 13,522 euros 15,389 dollars, afterwards rising by 2,530 euros3,596 dollars, and if we again check 2011 we can see that then the debt per person was 11,611 euros15,988 dollars .
The position of Malta, as compared with the rest of the world, has worsened in 2021 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 93 in the list of debt to GDP and 159 in debt per capita, out of the 190 we publish.
