In 2017 Malta public debt was 5,643 million euros 6,374 million dollars, has decreased 85 33 million since 2016.
This amount means that the debt in 2017 reached 50.8% of Malta GDP, a 5.4 percentage point fall from 2016, when it was 56.2% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malta debt. It has risen since 2007 in global debt terms, when it was 3,585 million euros 4,913 million dollars although it has fallen as a percentage of GDP, when it amounted to 62.3%.
According to the last data point published, Malta per capita debt in 2017 was 12,259 euros13,849 dollars per inhabitant. In 2016 it was 12,445 euros 13,775 dollars, afterwards dropping by 186 euros 74dollars, and if we again check 2007 we can see that then the debt per person was 8,789 euros12,046 dollars .
The position of Malta, as compared with the rest of the world, has improved in 2017 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 96 in the list of debt to GDP and 155 in debt per capita, out of the 185 we publish.
