In 2019 Malta public debt was 5,696 million euros 6,376 million dollars, has increased 55286 million since 2018.
This amount means that the debt in 2019 reached 43.1% of Malta GDP, a 2.7 percentage point fall from 2018, when it was 45.8% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malta debt. It has risen since 2009 in global debt terms, when it was 4,153 million euros 5,792 million dollars although it has fallen as a percentage of GDP, when it amounted to 67.6%.
According to the last data point published, Malta per capita debt in 2019 was 11,540 euros12,919 dollars per inhabitant. In 2018 it was 11,429 euros 13,498 dollars, afterwards rising by 111 euros579 dollars, and if we again check 2009 we can see that then the debt per person was 10,030 euros13,990 dollars .
The position of Malta, as compared with the rest of the world, has improved in 2019 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 75 in the list of debt to GDP and 154 in debt per capita, out of the 186 we publish.
