In 2015 around 8,348 suicides occurred in Ethiopia, 422 more than in 2014. In 2015, on average 23 Ethiopians committed suicide every day.
Ethiopia reported 9.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.51 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 8,348 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 6,479 were men suicides and 1,869 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.57 per 100,000 men and for women 3.67 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ethiopia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 8,153 homicides in Ethiopia, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1 suicides.
