Suicides decreased in Cyprus

In 2021 around 26 suicides occurred in Cyprus, 5 less than in 2020.

Cyprus reported 2.55 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.18 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Cyprus has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 26 recorded suicide cases in 2021, 16 were men suicides and 10 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.19 per 100,000 men and for women 1.95 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cyprus suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 16 homicides in Cyprus, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.6 suicides.
