In 2020 occurred 1,602 suicides in Chile. This year, 299 fewer people committed suicide than in 2019. In 2020, on average 4 Chileans committed suicide every day.

Chile had 8.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.27 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,602 recorded suicide cases in 2020, 1,322 were men suicides and 280 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.8 per 100,000 men and for women 2.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,115 homicides in Chile, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.4 suicides.
