Afghanistan national debt goes up

In 2020 Afghanistan public debt was 1,305 million euros1,490 million dollars, has increased 271333 million since 2019.

This amount means that the debt in 2020 reached 7.4% of Afghanistan GDP, a 1.27 percentage point rise from 2019, when it was 6.13% of GDP.

If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Afghanistan debt. It has risen since 2010 in global debt terms, when it was 889 million euros 1,180 million dollars although it has fallen as a percentage of GDP, when it amounted to 7.7%.

According to the last data point published, Afghanistan per capita debt in 2020 was 40 euros45 dollars per inhabitant. In 2019 it was 32 euros 36 dollars, afterwards rising by 8 euros9 dollars, and if we again check 2010 we can see that then the debt per person was 37 euros49 dollars .

The position of Afghanistan, as compared with the rest of the world, has worsened in 2020 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 5 in the list of debt to GDP and 1 in debt per capita, out of the 191 we publish.
