Sri Lanka has the highest suicide rate in the world

By 2015, suicides in Sri Lanka increased by 100 people to at 7,319 suicides In 2015, on average 20 Sri Lankans committed suicide every day.

In Sri Lanka there were 34.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.51 suicides per 100,000 people.

Sri Lanka has the highest suicide rate in the world.

Of the 7,319 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 5,858 were men suicides and 1,461 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 57.76 per 100,000 men and for women 13.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Sri Lanka suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 487 homicides in Sri Lanka, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 15 suicides.
