Guyana has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 222 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 163 were men suicides and 59 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 43.95 per 100,000 men and for women 15.4 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Guyana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 149 homicides in Guyana, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.5 suicides.
