Ghana - Intentional self-harm

In 2015 occurred 1,896 suicides in Ghana. This year, 53 more people committed suicide than in 2014. In 2015, on average 5 Ghanaians committed suicide every day.

Ghana had 6.84 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.51 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,896 recorded suicide cases in 2015, 1,492 were men suicides and 403 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.37 per 100,000 men and for women 2.79 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ghana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 525 homicides in Ghana, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.6 suicides.
