In 2020 Tonga public debt was 187 million euros214 million dollars, has decreased 22 million since 2019.
This amount means that the debt in 2020 reached 43.25% of Tonga GDP, a 1.97 percentage point rise from 2019, when it was 41.28% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Tonga debt. It has risen since 2010 in global debt terms, when it was 124 million euros 164 million dollars although it has fallen as a percentage of GDP, when it amounted to 44.73%.
According to the last data point published, Tonga per capita debt in 2020 was 1,874 euros2,135 dollars per inhabitant. In 2019 it was 1,890 euros 2,116 dollars, afterwards dropping by 16 euros 19dollars, and if we again check 2010 we can see that then the debt per person was 1,205 euros1,595 dollars .
The position of Tonga, as compared with the rest of the world, has improved in 2020 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 57 in the list of debt to GDP and 79 in debt per capita, out of the 190 we publish.
