In 2009 Syria public debt was 12,088 million euros 16,860 million dollars, has decreased 1,258 2,769 million since 2008.
This amount means that the debt in 2009 reached 31.21% of Syria GDP, a 6.11 percentage point fall from 2008, when it was 37.32% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Syria debt. It has gone down since 1999 in global debt terms, when it was 23,238 million euros 24,767 million dollars , and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 147.7%.
According to the last data point published, Syria per capita debt in 2009 was 573 euros799 dollars per inhabitant. In 2008 it was 648 euros 954 dollars, afterwards dropping by 75 euros 155dollars, and if we again check 1999 we can see that then the debt per person was 1,444 euros1,539 dollars .
The position of Syria, as compared with the rest of the world, has improved in 2009 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 34 in the list of debt to GDP and 41 in debt per capita, out of the 184 we publish.
