In 2016 Malawi public debt was 2,776 million euros 3,072 million dollars, has decreased 361 408 million since 2015.
This amount means that the debt in 2016 reached 62.08% of Malawi GDP, a 1.01 percentage point rise from 2015, when it was 61.07% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malawi debt. It has risen since 2006 in global debt terms, when it was 803 million euros 1,008 million dollars and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 28.08%.
According to the last data point published, Malawi per capita debt in 2016 was 153 euros187 dollars per inhabitant. In 2015 it was 173 euros 216 dollars, afterwards dropping by 20 euros 29dollars, and if we again check 2006 we can see that then the debt per person was 57 euros80 dollars .
The position of Malawi, as compared with the rest of the world, has worsened in 2016 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 123 in the list of debt to GDP and 10 in debt per capita, out of the 185 we publish.
