In 2019 Malawi public debt was 4,075 million euros4,562 million dollars, has increased 584439 million since 2018.
This amount means that the debt in 2019 reached 63.43% of Malawi GDP, a 0.31 percentage point rise from 2018, when it was 63.12% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malawi debt. It has risen since 2009 in global debt terms, when it was 1,470 million euros 2,051 million dollars and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 35.64%.
According to the last data point published, Malawi per capita debt in 2019 was 219 euros245 dollars per inhabitant. In 2018 it was 192 euros 227 dollars, afterwards rising by 27 euros18 dollars, and if we again check 2009 we can see that then the debt per person was 96 euros134 dollars .
The position of Malawi, as compared with the rest of the world, has worsened in 2019 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 132 in the list of debt to GDP and 10 in debt per capita, out of the 188 we publish.
