In 2017 Malawi public debt was 3,029 million euros 3,770 million dollars, has increased 339348 million since 2016.
This amount means that the debt in 2018 reached 57.85% of Malawi GDP, a 1.31 percentage point fall from 2017, when it was 59.16% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malawi debt. It has risen since 2007 in global debt terms, when it was 862 million euros 1,761 million dollars and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 36.2%.
According to the last data point published, Malawi per capita debt in 2017 was 163 euros202 dollars per inhabitant. In 2016 it was 144 euros 184 dollars, afterwards rising by 19 euros18 dollars, and if we again check 2007 we can see that then the debt per person was 60 euros119 dollars .
The position of Malawi, as compared with the rest of the world, has improved in 2018 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 117 in the list of debt to GDP and 10 in debt per capita, out of the 186 we publish.
