In 2021 Malawi public debt was 6,539 million euros7,735 million dollars, has increased 8431,244 million since 2020.
This amount means that the debt in 2021 reached 63.52% of Malawi GDP, a 8.73 percentage point rise from 2020, when it was 54.79% of GDP.
If we check the tables we can see the evolution of Malawi debt. It has risen since 2011 in global debt terms, when it was 1,616 million euros 2,246 million dollars and also in terms of GDP percentage, when it amounted to 19.98%.
According to the last data point published, Malawi per capita debt in 2021 was 342 euros404 dollars per inhabitant. In 2020 it was 298 euros 339 dollars, afterwards rising by 44 euros65 dollars, and if we again check 2011 we can see that then the debt per person was 100 euros139 dollars .
The position of Malawi, as compared with the rest of the world, has worsened in 2021 in terms of GDP percentage. Currently it is country number 108 in the list of debt to GDP and 17 in debt per capita, out of the 190 we publish.
