Yemen - Intentional self-harm

In 2011 occurred 2,008 suicides in Yemen. This year, 9 more people committed suicide than in 2010. In 2011, on average 6 Yemenis committed suicide every day.

Yemen had 8.28 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,008 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 1,311 were men suicides and 697 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.17 per 100,000 men and for women 5.54 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Yemen suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,375 homicides in Yemen, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.5 suicides.
