Number of suicides increases in United Arab Emirates

In 2010 around 289 suicides occurred in United Arab Emirates, 17 more than in 2009.

United Arab Emirates reported 3.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

United Arab Emirates, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 289 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 269 were men suicides and 20 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4.35 per 100,000 men and for women 0.88 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In United Arab Emirates suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 67 homicides in United Arab Emirates, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.3 suicides.
