Number of suicides increases in Turkmenistan

In 2010 around 497 suicides occurred in Turkmenistan, 16 more than in 2009. In Turkmenistan, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Turkmenistan reported 9.43 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 497 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 382 were men suicides and 115 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.69 per 100,000 men and for women 4.3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Turkmenistan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 105 homicides in Turkmenistan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.7 suicides.
