Number of suicides increases in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2010 around 171 suicides occurred in Trinidad and Tobago, 36 more than in 2009.

Trinidad and Tobago reported 12.86 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 171 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 134 were men suicides and 36 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.3 per 100,000 men and for women 5.09 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Trinidad and Tobago. However, in Trinidad and Tobago in 2010 there were there were 473 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.8 homicides per suicide.
