Number of suicides increases in Timor-Leste

In 2011 around 87 suicides occurred in Timor-Leste, 3 more than in 2010.

Timor-Leste reported 7.85 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 87 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 60 were men suicides and 27 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.56 per 100,000 men and for women 5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Timor-Leste suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 39 homicides in Timor-Leste, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.2 suicides.
