In 2012 around 3,344 suicides occurred in Tanzania, 129 more than in 2011. In 2012, on average 9 Tanzanians committed suicide every day.

Tanzania reported 7.32 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 3,344 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 2,483 were men suicides and 861 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.57 per 100,000 men and for women 3.54 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Tanzania. However, in Tanzania in 2012 there were there were 4,092 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
