Suicides increase in Switzerland

In 2011 occurred 1,067 suicides in Switzerland. This year, 61 more people committed suicide than in 2010. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Switzerland had 13.16 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,067 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 780 were men suicides and 287 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.56 per 100,000 men and for women 6.93 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Switzerland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 46 homicides in Switzerland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 23.2 suicides.
