Switzerland has a very high suicide rate

In 1996 around 1,432 suicides occurred in Switzerland, 13 more than in 1995. In 1996, on average 4 Swiss committed suicide every day.

Switzerland reported 20.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 15.06 suicides per 100,000 people.

Switzerland has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,432 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 1,010 were men suicides and 422 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 29.2 per 100,000 men and for women 11.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Switzerland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 83 homicides in Switzerland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 17.3 suicides.
