In Switzerland there were 21.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 14.95 suicides per 100,000 people.
Switzerland has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 1,467 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 1,032 were men suicides and 435 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.5 per 100,000 men and for women 12.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Switzerland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 110 homicides in Switzerland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 13.3 suicides.
