Suriname has a very high suicide rate

By 2011, suicides in Suriname increased by 5 people to at 140 suicides

In Suriname there were 26.01 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Suriname has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 140 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 108 were men suicides and 33 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 38.95 per 100,000 men and for women 11.83 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Suriname suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 43 homicides in Suriname, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.3 suicides.
