In 1992 around 3,533 suicides occurred in South Korea, 464 more than in 1991. In 1992, on average 10 South Koreans committed suicide every day.
South Korea reported 8.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.38 self-harm per 100.000 people.
South Korea has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 3,533 recorded suicide cases in 1992, 2,467 were men suicides and 1,066 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.2 per 100,000 men and for women 4.9 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 240 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 14.7 suicides.
