In 1990 occurred 3,159 suicides in South Korea. This year, 136 more people committed suicide than in 1989. In 1990, on average 9 South Koreans committed suicide every day.

South Korea had 7.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 14.95 self-harm per 100.000 people.

South Korea has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 3,159 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 2,197 were men suicides and 962 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.2 per 100,000 men and for women 4.5 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In South Korea suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 208 homicides in South Korea, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 15.2 suicides.
