South Africa has a low suicide rate

By 2011, suicides in South Africa increased by 35 people to at 359 suicides

In South Africa there were 0.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 359 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 284 were men suicides and 75 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 1.1 per 100,000 men and for women 0.3 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in South Africa. However, in South Africa in 2011 there were there were 15,554 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 43.3 homicides per suicide.
