Suicides increase in Solomon Islands

In 2011 occurred 44 suicides in Solomon Islands. This year, 2 more people committed suicide than in 2010.

Solomon Islands had 8.06 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 44 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 31 were men suicides and 13 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.96 per 100,000 men and for women 4.66 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Solomon Islands suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 19 homicides in Solomon Islands, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
