Suicides increase in Slovenia

In 2011 occurred 443 suicides in Slovenia. This year, 29 more people committed suicide than in 2010. In Slovenia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Slovenia had 21.48 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Slovenia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 443 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 354 were men suicides and 89 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 34.66 per 100,000 men and for women 8.58 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovenia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 16 homicides in Slovenia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 27.7 suicides.
