In 2010 around 631 suicides occurred in Slovakia, 30 more than in 2009. In Slovakia, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Slovakia reported 11.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.89 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 631 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 539 were men suicides and 92 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.5 per 100,000 men and for women 3.3 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Slovakia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 89 homicides in Slovakia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.1 suicides.
