Number of suicides increases in Singapore

In 2012 around 658 suicides occurred in Singapore, 121 more than in 2011. In Singapore, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Singapore reported 12.39 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.87 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 658 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 431 were men suicides and 227 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.57 per 100,000 men and for women 8.93 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Singapore suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 11 homicides in Singapore, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 59.8 suicides.
