Suicides increase in Samoa

In 2010 occurred 12 suicides in Samoa. This year, 1 more people committed suicide than in 2009.

Samoa had 6.19 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 12 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 9 were men suicides and 2 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.19 per 100,000 men and for women 2.44 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Samoa. However, in Samoa in 2010 there were there were 16 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.3 homicides per suicide.
