In 2010 around 2,766 suicides occurred in Romania, 180 more than in 2009. In 2010, on average 8 Romanians committed suicide every day.

Romania reported 13.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.89 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 2,766 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 2,304 were men suicides and 462 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 23.5 per 100,000 men and for women 4.4 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 266 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 10.4 suicides.
