Peru has a low suicide rate

In 2011 occurred 478 suicides in Peru. This year, 217 more people committed suicide than in 2010. In Peru, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Peru had 1.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Peru has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 478 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 321 were men suicides and 157 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 2.2 per 100,000 men and for women 1.1 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Peru. However, in Peru in 2011 there were there were 1,617 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 3.4 homicides per suicide.
