Suicides increase in Paraguay

In 2011 occurred 617 suicides in Paraguay. This year, 16 more people committed suicide than in 2010. In Paraguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Paraguay had 9.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.82 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 617 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 419 were men suicides and 199 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.23 per 100,000 men and for women 6.85 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Paraguay. However, in Paraguay in 2011 there were there were 657 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.1 homicides per suicide.
