Papua New Guinea - Intentional self-harm

In 2010 occurred 656 suicides in Papua New Guinea. This year, 25 more people committed suicide than in 2009. In Papua New Guinea, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Papua New Guinea had 9.81 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 656 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 521 were men suicides and 135 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.19 per 100,000 men and for women 3.71 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Papua New Guinea. However, in Papua New Guinea in 2010 there were there were 713 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.1 homicides per suicide.
