Suicides decreased in Panama

In 2010 around 209 suicides occurred in Panama, 46 less than in 2009.

Panama reported 5.72 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 209 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 182 were men suicides and 27 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.04 per 100,000 men and for women 1.49 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Panama. However, in Panama in 2010 there were there were 460 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.2 homicides per suicide.
