Number of suicides increases in Oman

In 2012 around 167 suicides occurred in Oman, 21 more than in 2011.

Oman reported 4.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 167 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 153 were men suicides and 14 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 6.82 per 100,000 men and for women 1.08 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Oman suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 39 homicides in Oman, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.3 suicides.
