Suicides increase in Oman

In 2010 occurred 144 suicides in Oman. This year, 33 more people committed suicide than in 2009.

Oman had 4.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 144 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 131 were men suicides and 13 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.64 per 100,000 men and for women 1.15 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Oman suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 48 homicides in Oman, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3 suicides.
