Suicides decreased in Namibia

In 2012 around 179 suicides occurred in Namibia, 7 less than in 2011.

Namibia reported 8.29 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 179 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 134 were men suicides and 45 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 12.75 per 100,000 men and for women 4.02 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Namibia. However, in Namibia in 2012 there were there were 388 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.2 homicides per suicide.
