Number of suicides falls in Moldova

In 2011 occurred 593 suicides in Moldova. This year, 241 fewer people committed suicide than in 2010. In Moldova, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Of the 593 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 503 were men suicides and 90 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 29.38 per 100,000 men and for women 4.88 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Moldova suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 216 homicides in Moldova, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.7 suicides.
