Mexico has a low suicide rate

In 1996 around 3,020 suicides occurred in Mexico, 126 more than in 1995. In 1996, on average 8 Mexicans committed suicide every day.

Mexico reported 3.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 15.06 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Mexico has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 3,020 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 2,523 were men suicides and 495 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 5.5 per 100,000 men and for women 1 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Mexico. However, in Mexico in 1996 there were there were 14,505 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 4.8 homicides per suicide.
