Suicides increase in Mauritius

In 2011 occurred 128 suicides in Mauritius. This year, 24 more people committed suicide than in 2010.

Mauritius had 10.24 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.82 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 128 recorded suicide cases in 2011, 103 were men suicides and 25 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.59 per 100,000 men and for women 3.98 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Mauritius suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 32 homicides in Mauritius, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4 suicides.
