By 2012, suicides in Malawi increased by 33 people to at 829 suicides On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

In Malawi there were 4.98 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.87 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 829 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 643 were men suicides and 186 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.52 per 100,000 men and for women 2.31 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Malawi suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 279 homicides in Malawi, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3 suicides.
