Suicides increase in Luxembourg

In 1996 occurred 72 suicides in Luxembourg. This year, 9 more people committed suicide than in 1995.

Luxembourg had 17.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 15.06 suicides per 100,000 people.

Luxembourg has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 72 recorded suicide cases in 1996, 53 were men suicides and 19 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 26.1 per 100,000 men and for women 9 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Luxembourg suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 4 homicides in Luxembourg, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 18 suicides.
