Lithuania has a very high suicide rate

In 1992 around 1,294 suicides occurred in Lithuania, 152 more than in 1991. In 1992, on average 4 Lithuanians committed suicide every day.

Lithuania reported 35 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.38 suicides per 100,000 people.

Lithuania has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,294 recorded suicide cases in 1992, 1,023 were men suicides and 271 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 58.5 per 100,000 men and for women 13.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Lithuania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 266 homicides in Lithuania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.9 suicides.
