Lithuania has a very high suicide rate

In 1990 occurred 969 suicides in Lithuania. This year, 31 fewer people committed suicide than in 1989. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Lithuania had 26.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.95 suicides per 100,000 people.

Lithuania has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 969 recorded suicide cases in 1990, 779 were men suicides and 190 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 44.5 per 100,000 men and for women 9.8 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Lithuania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 180 homicides in Lithuania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.4 suicides.
