Number of suicides increases in Liberia

In 2010 around 250 suicides occurred in Liberia, 13 more than in 2009.

Liberia reported 6.42 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.89 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 250 recorded suicide cases in 2010, 198 were men suicides and 52 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.97 per 100,000 men and for women 2.54 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Liberia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 129 homicides in Liberia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 1.9 suicides.
