Suicides increase in Lesotho

In 2012 occurred 226 suicides in Lesotho. This year, 1 more people committed suicide than in 2011.

Lesotho had 11.56 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 9.87 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 226 recorded suicide cases in 2012, 161 were men suicides and 65 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 15.91 per 100,000 men and for women 6.25 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Lesotho. However, in Lesotho in 2012 there were there were 641 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.8 homicides per suicide.
