Latvia has a very high suicide rate

In 1995 occurred 1,024 suicides in Latvia. This year, 9 fewer people committed suicide than in 1994. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Latvia had 41.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.58 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,024 recorded suicide cases in 1995, 825 were men suicides and 199 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 72 per 100,000 men and for women 14.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 288 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.6 suicides.
