Latvia has a very high suicide rate

In 1992 occurred 921 suicides in Latvia. This year, 164 more people committed suicide than in 1991. On average, there are 3 suicides per day.

Latvia had 35.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 15.38 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 921 recorded suicide cases in 1992, 709 were men suicides and 212 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 58.4 per 100,000 men and for women 15.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Latvia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 259 homicides in Latvia, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.6 suicides.
