Latvia has a very high suicide rate

In 1989 occurred 685 suicides in Latvia. This year, 72 more people committed suicide than in 1988. In Latvia, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Latvia had 25.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 14.93 suicides per 100,000 people.

Latvia has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 685 recorded suicide cases in 1989, 473 were men suicides and 212 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 38.2 per 100,000 men and for women 14.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
